Weight Loss and slip ups!

So you have had a slip up and you are wondering is it all worth it. Yes, weight loss is worth it.

I know that I am trying to lose weight but I am finally realizing that although I am 41, this will be a lifelong battle. I will always be fighting my weight. If I am slim, I need to always be watching out for my weight as for 40 years it has been a battle and it will be a battle for the next forty years. So, it is very appropriate that I should be thinking about how I am going to get past slip ups because THEY WILL HAPPEN!

And it did happen. Yesterday, I downed about two dozen Girl Scout cookies. This was after eating two big ice cream sundaes (I know, you are wondering about my weight loss intentions with such reckless behavior). I should have felt terrible today but I did not. I will not allow me to beat myself up over pour judgement (either weight loss or other).

I am making the constructive decision to move on and learn from this behavior. This is a very supportive, positive way of handling disappointments. You owe yourself this same way of treating yourself!

Today, I worked out, planned out my food for the day and am focused on doing the things I need to do to make weight loss successful for me. It is one day at a time and each day is a new chance to do it right.

Weight Loss Little Tricks

There are some some things I believe we all do that help us be successful at weight loss. Here are a couple of my favorites:

1) Drink protein shakes that have good quality ingredients including vitamins. It took me a long time but I finally got onto this weight loss secret bandwagon. I drink the following virtually every morning as it is low calorie, very satisfying and very good for my body:

- Spirutein (a fantastic brand I get at the Vitamin Shoppe) Exotic Red Fruit shake
- 1 heaping teaspoon of Psyllium (fiber)
- 1 heaping teaspoon flax
- 1 heaping teaspoon of liquid B12

This shake is not meant to be for weight loss but it is only 200 calories with milk. It is also delicious. I used to use the vanilla Spirutein and mix it with blueberries or strawberries but the Exotic Red Fruit shake is even better.

2) Not only will I use a protein shake as a meal replacement to help facilitate my weight loss, but I will often drink a shake an hour before a party or an evening out with the girls so that I fill up on good stuff rather than party food. Again, it is only 200 calories with milk so it still helps me meet my weight loss goals.

3) Substitute fresh veggies for chips with a dip. I love queso and simply can't pass it up. However, now I dip broccoli or cauliflower in queso rather than chips. It is a great way to sneak veggies in your diet and it tastes great. I do this with ranch and hummus, too!

Those are my three best weight loss secrets. Happy weight loss!

Weight Loss and Momentum!

Okay it is February 5th, is your momentum to lose weight where it was on January 1st? If not, why not? Aren't your goals just as important? Won't you feel fabulous by summer if you are even 10 pounds slimmer? Then get back on that losing weight bandwagon!

I recently started up Weight Watchers again (this would be the twentieth time in my life!). I have been wanting to lose weight and get focused for a long time. I really thought that I was focused and doing the right things for weight loss but boy did I realize I was wrong! I slipped like so many of us do with trying to achieve something without a plan. I also realized I was eating a lot more than I thought I was (big shocker)!

To lose weight you can not practice maintenance tactics when what you really need is a guerrilla marketing approach. And, of course, as with every time that I join Weight Watchers, I realize that losing weight is not nearly as difficult as I make it out to be. It is simply calories in and calories out. That's is it. It is adding and subtraction.

Isn't it worth a little thought and planning to do what you know will bring huge rewards with just a little focused effort?
