Chocolate and Weight Loss

I am getting out of control! I am at my holiday weight where I jump up 5 pounds automatically. Clearly, this is not a way to weight loss.

Chocolate has been the recent problem impacting my weight loss efforts (technically, my weight gain efforts). I know this is crazy. Maybe I need to simply not have chocolate in the house as I just eat it all.

Yesterday I went to Costco and they were sampling this delicious fudge. They were only carrying it through the weekend. It was fabulous. I bought a box for me and one for a gift. Do you know that I ate a whole one pound box yesterday??? I don't even feel bad. It was fresh and delicious. That's bad!!!!

So, that is how I have discovered after years of weight loss trouble that I simply can't have chocolate in the house if I want to lose weight. My friend has this same problem with wine. If she has it with dinner, she doesn't drink too much wine but instead finds that it causes her to not have control over what she eats. As a result, she eats too many calories.

What one thing could you cut out that causes you to over eat? Is there one thing that causes you to lose control and get away from your weight loss efforts? How willing would you be to step away from it for one month?

This weight loss thing is hard!!!!

I actually am at my holiday weight -- this is the first time in a long time that has happened as early as summer. It is scary!

Why is weight loss so hard for some of us and so easy for others. I read a startling statistic today from Weight Watchers CEO David Kirchhoff. Bread for the World reported that there were 862 million people going hungry in the world. This is startling to me -- particularly because we are a fat nation and I am constantly trying to lose weight because I eat too much. Naturally, I was horrified to find that the World Health Organization did, in fact, report that 1.6 billion people worldwide were overweight.

These facts from 2007 should kick our weight loss efforts into gear. The sheer numbers and inequity of it all is just horrifying. While I am trying to think of how I can get that next sugar fix, there are others right here in the U.S. (not to mention around the world) that don't even have enough to eat.

Let's make a difference and stop eating so much -- not just because we need to do so to be healthy (goodness knows if that were it we would have lost the excess weight years ago), but let's lose weight so that we can put that extra food money into the hands of people that need it simply to survive the day. Let's help other countries who are not nearly as wealthy and lucky as we are in the U.S.
